30 years of supporting Defence and national security 


Crown Management Consultants is 30! As we step towards our next 30 years, we’re reflecting on our achievements so far with a timeline featuring our key milestones and moments to date.  


Here's to the next 30 years!  




1994 

  • Crown Management Consultants launches in Canberra. With the Department of Defence as a foundation client, military satellite and communications engineer Andrew Short launches Crown Management Consultants (CrownMGT).   

1996/1997 

  • Major Peter ‘Doc’ Holliday and Major Richard Barwise join. The two establish sister companies, AssiduIT and Professional Services & Engineering (PS&E) to bolster the capacity of CrownMGT.  

  • Work commences with JP2008. The team takes on a supporting role on JP2008.  

2004 

  • Steve Ellicott joins. Under the Headwater Consulting brand, Steve joins to further bolster our experience and skills.  

2006 

  • Commence work with Tactical Information Exchange Integration Office (TIEIO). The team commences a significant role working on TIEIO . 

2009 

  • Cement Defence partnership with key roles. Our reputation as a leading and trusted Defence partner grows with roles in JP2072, L75 and LNIC.  

2010 

  • Commence role on Land 200. We kick off our role in L200, a key project in modernising Army command and control.  

2011 

  • Appointment to the Defence Materiel Organisation Support Service (DMOSS). Offering specialist services to the DMOSS panel marks a significant growth period. 

2017 

  • Solidify the CrownMGT brand. All associated businesses come together under the one name. Doc, Steve and Richard join Andrew as the four CrownMGT Directors.  

  • Fyshwick office opening. This marks a big acievement for the company, with the doors opening to our first official office.  

  • Commence involvement in JP9347. We play a key role in this Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) project to modernise and enhance the ADF’s Joint Data Networks Capability. 

2018 

  • CrownMGT awarded position on Defence Support Services (DSS) panel. This is a key panel appointment for CrownMGT with work focused on facilitating the acquisition and sustainment of Defence’s air, joint, land and maritime capital equipment and systems. 

2020 

  • Commence role in JP9102. Our role sees us working with Defence to provide the next generation satelitte communication component of the Australian Defence SATCOM System.  

2021 

  • Open Manuka office. As the team grows, we move into new premises in Canberra. 

  • ICT Marketplace panel. CrownMGT awarded position on this key government panel.  

  • CrownMGT partners with key players in the industry. We commence ongoing relationships with organisations including KPMG, Downer, KBR, EY and Telstra, to help solve challenging ICT projects.  

2022 

  • Brisbane office opening. Our operations grow and expand north with a new Brisbane office. 

  • Awarded  Defence Industry and Information and Communications Technology Provider Arrangement (ICTPA) panel. Our reputation continues to grow with this key panel appointment. 

2023 

  • CMDT Group launches. CrownMGT becomes a subsidiary of CMDT Group under the same Directorships. 

  • Awarded Science and Technology panel. Our panel roles expand with appointment to Science and Technology. 

  • Commence work on a range of key projects. This includes iBMS, JP9103, L4130 and L4140.  

  • Employment recognition.  Reserves and Employer Support awards us Silver membership.  

2024 and beyond 

  • Celebrate 30 years in business. We mark this significant milestone with celebratory events in Canberra and Brisbane. 

  •  WNA, AIR555, AIR350. We continue to showcase our expertise and trusted partners status by commencing work across numerous projects.  

  • Recognised as a Veteran Friendly Employer. The Department of Veterans’ Affairs names us as a Veteran Friendly Employer.
